I'm not sure how many of you know this but I actually left the evil empire of AT&T (formerly Cingular Wireless, formerly AT&T Wireless....) this past November.

I had been getting increasingly frustrated with life at that call center ever since moving back to Oklahoma City. Things kept piling on top of each other and I got more and more irritated. I think the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was when I applied for a management training position and was passed over by 2 people that I trained. At that point in time, I really felt like I was done with that place.

So out of curiosity, I contacted my former supervisor at Teleflora (see previous post entitled My Life in a Call Center) to determine if I was eligible for re-hire. Well, it turns out that I was so at the point in time, I turned in my application at Teleflora and turned in my notice at AT&T.

So now I am working once again at Teleflora. There are only 4 people working here in my department that were here when I left so the atmosphere is a little different but still fun.

Truth be told, I am really (really) getting burnt out with talking on the phone and not really sure how much longer I am going to last. Problem is, I have a family, I have to provide for them and I am not really qualified for anything else. I guess only time will tell what is going to happen. For now, I'll stay here because as far as call center jobs go, it's better than anywhere else. It's only problem is the fact that I am still on the phone.

Well, that's it for now.

I know what you mean about getting burnt out on the phone. I have felt that from time to time. Fortunately, all the changes at my current job have kept it interesting so that has saved some of my sanity. I am planning to make moves toward a position that would not be on the phone, but also not in management. Unfortunately, that is very difficult to get into and will take some time. I guess we will see if that works out for me. If nothing else, the certifications I will need to get there will be valuable elsewhere.

And now a further update....

I am back in Seattle and working, again, in a call center.

I am working for a medical insurance company called Premera (which is basically Blue Cross for Western Washington).

Not a bad place to work for so far but only time will tell. Smile
