|

OK, this may seem like a silly question of the day but I really gotta know.
Are reality TV shows really a good source of entertainment or are they just programming used to take up space because people have run out of useful ideas?
Personally, I really hate reality television. I think it is the worst, most irritating form of entertainment that we have come up with. What happened to good sitcoms? What happened to good TV?
I did a post on my blog (I think it was on my blog) a long time ago about my least favorite TV shows ever and if I remember correctly, they were ALL reality shows (off the top of my head I can remember What Not To Wear (ugh!!! the worst!) and Survivor being on there).
And thinking back to where it all began, I kept thinking it was all Survivors fault but recently I became aware that I can not lay ALL of the blame on this show. True, this is the show that really got the public into reality TV. But the one I think that started it all and it truly to blame for reality TV is The Real World. Remember that show? Put out by MTV years and years ago. In fact, The Real World not only is the blame for starting the reality TV trend but also can be blamed for beginning the downfall of MTV as we all once knew it.
In conclusion, I hate reality TV. I think writers have basically just run out of ideas and have started making up new ways to entertain us by showing crap we can see everyday in our own neighborhoods or by coming up with newer, reality-based shows that are little more than the new wave of game shows (Fear Factory, The Biggest Loser, American Idol, etc..).
OK, that's all I have to say for now. Any thoughts? _________________ -- Otter --

| my biggest pet peeve about reality shows is they aren't reality! how can reality be scripted? there are some i enjoy, the apprentice, project runway, but the ones with no real point except to give us "insight" into someone's life...those are absolute drivel and they should be punished! lol |

They ALLL drive me nuts.
But the one I really really can't stand the most of course is What Not to Wear. Hate that show with a passion.
The only reality shows that I can stomach are some of the ones on the Food Network like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. _________________ -- Otter --

| I really like that one. My favorite is Project Runway. I have no idea why...most of the people irritate me. I think I like Tim Gunn--alternate lifestyle aside. The problem is we are drawn to them like flies and since people watch them, they keep making them! |
