| As my semester is coming to a close and I have no intention of taking any classes over the summer, I find myself shortly in a position to read recreationally again. I must say it is not something you appreciate until you find yourself inundated with all kinds of books you have to read but which you have little or no interest. I had a pretty healthy stack of reading for just one of my classes. If I think of it sometime I might post the reading list for your amusement. Anyway, I have been out of the loop and with no new Harry Potter book to read I find myself with little direction in regards to new reading. I don't know if there are any new Steve Alten book(s) to be had. If so, I would certainly place that on my short list. I generally enjoy sci fi or thriller, though not necessarily horror per se. If you know Steve Alten's work and Dean Koontz, I tend toward somewhere in the range of both of them. I also like some John Saul occasionally though it's been so long I have no idea what I've read of his. I think I have a newer Dean Koontz book I haven't read somewhere but I may be hard pressed to find it. I plan to head to the library next week so I was hoping to compile a list of items to get while there. Any suggestions would be most welcome. |

| cool, i will have to check it out. Any other suggestions? I'd like to try and do a spree of reading like I did last summer when I read all of Steve Alten's books (available at the the time). I remember reading the preview he had on his site back then for the shell game and thought it sounded good. |

The Shell Game is a great book, but I have a feeling that there are parts of it that you might not like Daniel.
At the moment I am reading American Creation by Joseph J. Ellis. It's a nonfiction book about the early years on our contry.
If you haven't read the books Angels & Demons or Desception Point by Dan Brown, then I would highly recommend both. |

So here's what I ended up picking up recently from the library. I haven't started on any of them yet, because I still have one more final tomorrow.
Eye in the Sky - Philip K. Dick
Spider Star - Mike Brotherton
Invasive Procedures - Orson Scott Card & Aaron Johnston
I also considered picking up a Stephen King book, I believe it was Duma Key or something like that, but I decided I didn't want anything quite that thick to start off with. The ones above are moderate sized except for the first which is pretty short. I figure that should get me started and then we'll see where it goes. Thanks for the suggestions and I have a copy of Shell Game on hold once they get to me I'll grab it and read it. |

| Thanks for the tip. You must have missed my discussion about checking it out when I returned the other books (unread). A slightly new chapter in that story. I had been busy and not gotten much read on The Shell Game either and it was due on the 6th (ironically) so I returned it after I got off work early on the 7th. I was concerned about a fine so I went online and renewed it and found that I was able to renew it until after I get back from Virginia so I went back to the library later that day and checked it out again so I can take it with me on the trip. Hopefully I will get a chance to read it then. |
